How to Block Spam Calls

When a video conference system is put in public network it is vulnerable to SIP or H323 attack. So customers may receive a lot of spam calls which affect the normal usage badly.


A network device in public is vulnerable to malicious attach.


Yealink provide several method to defense SIP or H323 attack, it is recommend to use them as combination to avoid as much as spam calls.


1.       H323 safe mode call, this can be enabled under Setting->Call Feature. When the feature is enable, Yealink VCS will send an inquiry to caller and if there is no response, the call will not be answered.


2.       Abnormal Call Answering, this option can be set under Setting-> Call Feature. It will Specifies the account type for answering SIP incoming call from public network. There are three options:

Disabled—reject the SIP incoming call from public network.

Account Answer—use first SIP account to answer the SIP incoming call from public network.

IP Call Answer —use IP to answer the SIP incoming call from public network.


3.       Disable SIP IP call, the option is under Account->SIP IP account, if you have registered Yealink Cloud account or other SIP account on video conference system and will only use account to make/receive calls, this option can be disabled to reject any SIP IP call.


4.       Meeting Password, the option is under Setting-> General. When it is enable only callers who know your meeting password can call you. And you can set white list, the number is the white list can directly contact you without password.


Conclusion: Since spam calls may come with different ways, only one configuration can’t block all of spam calls. So we need to decide a best way to prevent them according to how customer use their video conference system.
